Compass Golf Finishes Fourth In State

Manor, TX – Battling through weather elements most of the day, the Compass Academy girls golf team ended the Class 3A Girls Championship Tournament in fourth place, just four strokes from making the podium.  ShadowsGlen Golf Club hosted the two-day event featuring some of the state’s best high school golfers.

Turning in a team score of (402-388) 790, the Lady Cougars played catch up after falling off of Monday’s pace by 15 strokes. The Compass Academy girls rallied for a second round, 14 swings better. Wall carded a (353-343) 696 to claim the state title, while McGregor’s (382-386) 768 and Caldwell’s (394-392) 786 allowed them to step on the medalist podium as second and third place.  The tournament went through two weather delays today, before concluding late this afternoon.

In their first full season in UIL varsity competition, Compass Academy continues to display plenty of potential to join the Class 3A Elite.  The outstanding performance even caught the attention of State Representative Brooks Landgraf. According to the Odessa Permian graduate, “I’m so proud of their strong showing! They’re a force to be reckoned with, and as they become juniors and seniors, they’re going to dominate this state. The rest of Texas is on notice that the Compass Academy Cougars are a team of destiny!” Landgraf was nearby as he spends quite a bit of time at the capitol in Austin working on state legislative matters.

In the medalist hunt, freshman Jordyn Cruz shot a team-best (94-93) 187 for the Lady Cougars and finished tied for 19th by tournament’s end. Chapel Hill’s Katie Hart claimed first place Gold with a (74-80) 154. Alli Reily (76-79) 155 and Maggie Parmer (77-83) 160 completed the top podium medalists.

For Compass Academy’s three sophomores, Aubrey Stone turned in a (97-96) 193 with Allie Scott (108-95) and Sierra Dobbs (103-) posting a 203 and 207 respectively.
