Softball: Bulldogs Claim Bragging Rights

Midland, TX – The Lady Bulldogs made short work of Tuesday’s crosstown game with the Lady Rebels.  Alex Aguilar led Midland High to a 8-0 shutout of Midland Lee at Martin Field this evening.

Midland’s junior pitcher went the distance and struck out 17 en route to the district win.  She benched seven consecutive batters to end the game.  Aguilar allowed only three hits and two walks over the seven innings to keep the Lady Bulldogs unbeaten in district.

After a scoreless first frame, Midland High got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning.  Facing two outs, Makenah Dutchover and Nalaney Paul each recorded RBI base hits to plate the game’s first two runs.

The Lady Bulldogs broke the game open in the third inning, which included batting a round and sending all nine to the plate.  After Jenn Casillas got on base, Liliana Garza belted out an RBI double to score Casillas.  Dutchover logged her second batted in run on a single to left field.  Following a Lee fielding error, MHS utilized back-to-back base hits to push a total of four runs across the plate for a 6-0 lead.

The bats grew silent in the fourth inning.  The Lady Bulldogs went back on the offensive in the fifth.  A triple by Jolie Baeza and homerun by Dutchover extended the MHS lead to 8-0, which held the remainder of the contest.  Dutchover finished the game going 3/3 at the plate, and that included scoring three runs and registering three RBI’s in the crosstown victory.

Midland High improves to 4-0 in District 2-6A and 18-2 for the season.  Midland Lee falls to 0-4 in district and 9-6 overall.  The Lady Bulldogs are in sole possession of first place in the standings.
